BRONZE STAR MEDAL
The Secretary of the Navy
WASHINGTON

The President of the United States takes pleasure
in presenting the BRONZE STAR MEDAL to

LIEUTENANT GLEN WILLIAM COLEMAN
UNITED STATES NAVAL RESERVE

for the service as set forth the following

CITATION:

“For meritorious achievement as Torpedo Officer
on board the U.S.S. HOEL in action against enemy Jap-
anese forces during the Battle off Samar, October 25,
1944. When a direct hit severed communication after
he had launched his first salvo of torpedoes by director
control from the bridge, Lieutenant (then Lieutenant,
Junior Grade,) Coleman immediately proceeded to the
remaining torpedo tube to direct the launching of the
salvo by local control, thereby assisting his command-
ing officer in completing two successful runs against
enemy capital ships. His initiative and devotion to
duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of
the United States Naval Service.”

Lieutenant Coleman is authorized to wear the combat “V”.

For the President,

James Forrestal
Secretary of the Navy
